10 contractors enlisted to refurbish Afraha Stadium

The County Government of Nakuru has enlisted the services of ten contractors to carry out the refurbishment of Afraha Stadium ahead of Madaraka Day celebrations on June 1, 2016.

According to the county governor Kinuthia Mbugua, the contractors have been assigned different duties in a bid to give the stadium a new look

Speaking during an inspection exercise on Saturday, Mbugua said all construction work would be finalized by May 22 to give enough time for preparations for the Madaraka Day celebrations.

“We have inspected the stadium and are satisfied with the progress so far. We will continue to accord contractors the necessary assistance in order to beat the set deadlines,” said Mbugua.

Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Wanyama Musiambo said that his department would work hand in hand with the county government in order to realize the goals.

He said that necessary security arrangements have been put in place to make the celebrations successful.

Despite the county’s clear intentions to give the stadium a facelift, questions are set to arise over the number of contractors assigned to carry out the refurbishment.

While the county insists that it was necessary to have all the ten contractors to fast-track the process, opponents  of Mbugua’s administration argue that the same work would have been handled by fewer contractors in a move that would have saved on cost.
