10 more patients dead as Kenya records 96 new COVID-19 cases

Ten more patients have succumbed to COVID-19 in Kenya raising the number of fatalities recorded in the country so far to 634.

According to the Ministry of Health only three out of the 10 patients had pre-existing health conditions.

In a press briefing on Tuesday, Health CAS Dr. Mercy Mwangangi announced that 96 more people tested positive from a sample size of 3,270 tested in the last 24 hours, bringing to 36,301 the number of confirmed positive cases in the country.

“This pushes our cumulative tests to 502,003. From the cases, all are Kenyans except 4 foreigners. In terms of gender 70 are males and 26 females. The youngest is a Five year-old child, while the oldest is 81,” said Dr. Mwangangi.

At the same time, 121 people have recovered from the disease; 97 from the Home-Based Care Program, and 24 have been discharged from various hospitals. This now brings the total recoveries to 23,364.

The 96 new cases are distributed across the counties as follows: Nairobi 26, Kisii 10, Busia 8, Mombasa 7, Uasin Gishu 7, Kisumu 7, Machakos 6, Kericho 5, Kilifi 4, Samburu 2, Nakuru 2, Kajiado 2, Kiambu 2, Bomet 1, Embu 1, Kakamega 1, Makueni 1, Meru 1, Trans Nzoia 1, Narok 1 and Taita Taveta 1.

In terms of sub-County distribution, the 26 cases in Nairobi, are from Westlands (6), Roysambu (5), Langata (4) Embakasi East (3), Embakasi South (2), Dagoretti North, Embakasi Central, Embakasi West, Kasarani, Kibra and Makadara, (1) case each.

In Kisii, the 10 cases are all from Kitutu Chache South. In Busia, the 8 cases are from Teso North (7) and Matayos (1). The 7 cases in Mombasa, are from Jomvu (4) and Mvita (3), the 7 cases in Uasin Gishu, are from Ainabkoi (4) and Turbo (3) while the 7 cases in Kisumu, are from Nyando (3), Kisumu Central and Kisumu West (2) cases each.

In Machakos, the 6 cases are from Athi River (4) and Machakos Town (1), while in Kericho, all the 5 cases are from Ainamoi. In Kilifi, the 4 cases are from Kaloleni, Kilifi North, Kilifi South and Malindi (1) case each.

The 2 cases in Samburu, are all from Samburu Central, the 2 cases in Nakuru, are from Gilgil and Naivasha (1) case each, the 2 cases in Kajiado, are all from Kajiado East, the 2 cases in Kiambu, are from Ruiru and Mika (1) case each.

The case in Bomet, is from Bomet Central, the case in Embu, is from Manyatta, the case in Kakamega, is from Lurambi, the case in Makueni, is from Kibwezi West, the case in Meru, is from Imenti South, the case in Trans Nzoia, is from Cherangany, the case in Narok, is from Trans Mara West and the case in Taita Taveta, is from Taveta.
