100 Girls Rescued From FGM

The school going girls are aged between 8 and 13.

The county’s Action AID project manager Miss Grace Ananda, said many girls have been forced to drop from school due to the practice.

Most of them are forced to get married immediately after undergoing the cut which traditionally makes them women in the community.

FGM is traumatic and highly dangerous and often leads to lifelong pain and suffering or death to girls who are subjected to it.

According to the district’s children officer John Lagat, the practice has also resulted to poor performance in national examinations in the region.

Immediate complications can include severe pain, shock, bleeding, bacterial infection, urine retention and open sores in the genital region.
