10,000 Police Recruits to Report Next week

The directive comes after President Uhuru Kenyatta, Thursday, ordered the police boss to take urgent steps and ensure that the recruits are admitted in training camps to address shortage of security personnel in the country.

“I direct the Inspector General of Police to take steps to ensure the 10,000 recruits whose enrolment is pending, promptly report for training at the Kenya Police College, Kiganjo,” President Kenyatta directed.

In a statement, Boinett said those admitted to join police service should report to Kiganjo training college, those admitted to GSU to report to the GSU Training School in Embakasi and those joining the Administration Police to report to the AP Training College in Embakasi.

The move, to recall the recruits, defies a court order by the High Court impose last August following allegations of corruption, irregularities and blatant violation of the Constitution.

In his ruling, Judge Isaac Lenaola said “the National Police Service failed itself, Kenyans, the recruits and the Constitution” in the way they conducted the exercise.

The repeat exercise would have reportedly cost taxpayers Sh87 billion, an amount spent on hiring the officers.

The Court of Appeal is expected to make a ruling on May regarding the contested recruitment.
