11 arraigned over missing KCPE exam papers, released on Ksh.300K bond

Eleven suspects arrested over the loss of Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations for Olomooka Primary School have been released on a bond of Ksh.300, 000 or a cash bail of Ksh.200, 000.

Appearing before Narok Chief Magistrate Wilbroda Juma on Thursday, the accused – 3 Administration Police officers and 8 teachers – denied two charges leveled against them.

Justice Juma further directed the key suspect, Anne Kirui, who was in possession of the exam papers during the October 31 incident to undergo a medical check.

In the first account, the suspects were charged with loss of examination papers or material contrary to Section 29 of the Kenya National Examination Council Act No. 29 of 2012, and neglect of duty in the second account.

According to the prosecution, “Kiswahil Lugha, Science and Kiswahil Insha meant for Oloomoka exam center were negligently lost in a manner prejudicial to proper and fair conduct of examinations.”

Counsels Kimutai Bosek, representing the first and ninth accused persons, and Allan Mengati representing the rest assured the court that their clients were ready to abide by the bond terms saying they were presumed innocent unless found guilty.
