11 arrested with crude weapons at Uhuru Park

Eleven people have been arrested with crude weapons as they tried to gain entry into Uhuru Park in Nairobi, the venue where the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy’s (CORD) rally is planned for today (Wednesday).

Kilimani OCPD Peter Kattam confirmed the arrests of the men who were aboard a passenger Matatu heading to the grounds.

The 11 have been taken to Kilimani Police Station.

Security has been beefed up and CORD supporters have been allowed to access the grounds regardless of an earlier report that wanted CORD leaders to hold their rally in another venue.

Meanwhile, normal traffic flow in Nakuru County was interrupted this morning as the county hosts the 53rd Madaraka Day celebrations at Afraha stadium.

Several roads leading to Nakuru CBD were closed in a bid to enhance security in the busy town.

Rift valley regional commissioner Wanyama Musyambu however said that pedestrians would be allowed to use the roads.
