11 estates in Nairobi to go without water Governor Kidero

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has listed 11 estates that will go without water after a pipeline supplying the areas was washed away at the Nairobi River crossing on Saturday.

The governor stated that the GSU camp along Thika Road, Baba Dogo, Dandora Phase 1 and 2, Huruma, Kariabangi North and South, Buruburu, Outer Ring, Umoja 1 and 2, and Innercore, Tena, the whole of Donholm, Tassia and Nyayo Embakasi including Embakasi village will go without water.

Kidero further stated that city engineers have been mobilised to ensure the pipeline is reinstated within the next 24 hours.

The floods that began last month have wreaked havoc in Nairobi, with the main incident being the collapse of a residential building in Huruma Estate leaving 49 people dead and 28 people missing.

The floods have also rendered several roads impassable with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and Kenya National Highway Authority (KNHA) listing 12 roads that should be avoided during the ongoing rainy season.

In a statement to the media, the transport body said the current heavy rainfall in the country poses safety risks to road users due to the resultant unfavourable road conditions.

Among the roads that feature in the list include Langata Road (T-Mall), Muhoho Road/Popo Road Junction, Muhoho Road at Ngong River crossing, Lusaka Road and Baricho Road both at Anti-malaria drain crossing, Jogoo Road near Makadara Law Courts, James Gichuru Road at Olenguruone Junction and near Convent drive junction.
