11 Ethiopian aliens remanded in a Muranga court

11 Ethiopian immigrants were Thursday arraigned in a Murang’a court for being in the country illegally.

The eleven appeared before Murang’a Senior Resident Magistrate Joseph Masiga but could not take plea as they could not communicate in English or Kiswahili.

The prosecution demanded they be remanded at Murang’a GK prison for two weeks when a translator will be provided for them.

The illegal immigrants were intercepted by police at St. Mary’s near Murang’a town on Wednesday night while travelling in a probox headed to Nairobi.

The probox they were in broke down and the driver abandoned them forcing the residents to alert the police.

The eleven were apprehended after they failed to produce immigration documents to prove that they were in the country lawfully.

The suspects, who were men only, could not hold back their tears and could be heard and seen sobbing in court.

This comes as the security department in Kenya hastens fight on terrorism with rampant raids and arrests of illegal immigrants living in Kenya in efforts to curb the terrorism menace.
