11 Magistrates fired over misconduct, graft and incompetence

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has dismissed 11 Magistrates following conclusion of disciplinary proceedings against them.

The judicial officers were among 15 magistrates and three judicial staff who were on interdiction over various misconduct accusations ranging from involvement in corruption, incompetence and delayed delivery of justice.

One of the accused magistrates was reinstated while two were severed with warnings. Three cases against the judicial staff were postponed.

The disciplinary action against the magistrates was recommended by the Sharad Rao-led, Judges and Magistrates Vetting Board.

In pronouncing their fate, Chief Magistrate, David Maraga, urged judicial officers to adhere to their oath of office and code of conduct.

Justice Maraga reiterated that JSC would never hesitate to exercise its disciplinary powers over its officers saying that vetting of judges and magistrates was only the beginning of sanitizing the corridors of justice.

Maraga further stated that the Judiciary, under his stewardship, would maintain the highest integrity levels and dispense justice without delay.
