11 students hospitalized after cholera outbreak

11 students have been admitted at the Narok District Referral Hospital following a Cholera outbreak at Narok Boys High School.

Confirming the incident, Narok CEC for Health Vivian Sereti Mpeti said those suspected to be infected had been isolated as treatment goes on following severe vomiting and diarrhoea.

The CEC was speaking at the institution after she led a team of health officers on an inspection mission.

She added that good hygiene and food inspection at the institution was underway so as to prevent further spread.

Isaac Seret, the school Principal, said the student population of 800 together with sub-ordinate staff and 52 teachers will undergo mandatory treatment.

This comes just a day after the County Government of Nakuru banned fish hawking along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway following the recent cholera outbreak in Naivasha.

Through the department of fisheries and public health, the county outlawed the trade mainly in Naivasha terming it as unhealthy and illegal.
