11 sustain serious injuries in accident involving a Matatu and an ambulance in Mwea
Eleven people sustained serious injuries on Wednesday evening following a crash that involved an ambulance from the County Government of Kirinyaga and a matatu from NENO sacco.
According to Gichugu sub-county police commander Anthony Mbogo, the matatu with 9 passengers was heading to Embu from Nairobi while the ambulance was heading to Kerugoya from Embu hospital.
“I called my officers to the scene shortly after the accident where 11 people were taken to Embu hospital,” Mbogo said
Gichugu police boss said the patient in the ambulance was not injured.
“The patient who was a middle-aged woman was not injured ,officers made sure everything was safe,” the police boss said.
Local living along the Mwea-embu highway led by Francis Mutegi who took five victims to Embu Hospital have expressed concerns over the increasing number of accidents on the busy highway
“We are not happy with the increasing fatal accidents caused by reckless drivers and that’s why we are urging government to erect more bumps’,” mutegi said
