11-year-old boy drowns at hydro-electric plant

An 11-year-old boy drowned at Iria Maina hydro-electric plant in Cheptabach village, Boito location, Konoin sub-county on Saturday, February 10.

Confirming the incident, area chief John Cheruiyot said the boy was playing with his friends when he attempted to walk through some of the rocks in the river but accidentally slipped into the water and drowned.

Cheruiyot further revealed that the deceased’s friends raised alarm and notified members of the public nearby who rushed to the scene and attempted to rescue the boy.

Their efforts, however, were fruitless as the boy had already died by the time they had reached him.

On retrieving the body, the members of the public present reported the incident to Mogogosiek Police Station after which the body was taken to Kapkatet District Hospital mortuary.

Area chief Cheruiyot appealed to parents not to allow their children go to rivers without adult supervision.
