12-year-old girl dies after quarry collapses on her in Homa Bay

A 12-year-old girl died on Wednesday after walls of a quarry at Lwala village in Suba North, Homa Bay County caved in, burying her alive.

The Class Three pupil was in the accompany of her siblings collecting soil to be used in repairing their house.

Confirming the incident, Ngodhe Sub-Location Assistant chief Charles Ngoe said as the children were digging out the soil, the walls collapsed burying the girl in the quarry.

Her siblings, who escaped unhurt, raised an alarm alerting local residents who arrived at the scene to rescue the 12-year-old.

By the time the locals retrieved the girl from the quarry, she had already succumbed to injuries.

The body has since been moved to Kirindo Mortuary.
