17-year-old girl in police custody over Msandos death

A 17-year-old girl will now remain in police custody for seven days to allow detectives finalize their investigation into the murder of slain Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ICT Deputy Director, Chris Msando.

This comes after the Kiambu Juvenile Court on Thursday, August 22 morning remanded her at the Muthaiga Police Station as police continue with investigations.

According to police, the girl’s phone was allegedly used to send threatening messages to the late Msando. The messages were sent in June this year, a month before he was killed.

According to police, the girl was arrested in Awendo, Migori County Wednesday (August 21) and later brought to Nairobi.

On August 3, 2017, Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet, said that police had recorded statements from six people and were still hunting down four others over the killing of electoral commission’s ICT boss.

Msando’s body was found dumped at Muguga Forest in Kikuyu, Kiambu County on Saturday, July 29, 2017 after he was reported missing by his family.

His body was found alongside that of Ms Maryanne Carol Ngumbu and taken to City Mortuary where they were identified by the respective families.

According to the autopsy report, Msando was strangled to death by bare hands.

An autopsy on the body of Carol Ngumbu, however, revealed that she was also strangled to death, but with a rope unlike Msando who was strangled by bare hands.
