13 couples tie the knot in Embu mass wedding ceremony

Thirteen couples on Saturday tied the knot in a colorful mass wedding at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Embu town.

Father Stephen Kinyau celebrated mass and led in uniting the 13 couples, many whom had already been cohabiting.

The couples seized the opportunity of a mass wedding as it was cheaper since the church was also celebrating its 60-year anniversary.

Hundreds turned up to witness the wedding that saw the couples, some of whom had up to six fully grown children, exchange vows.

George Makwemba, 46, and his wife Eunice Kerumbo, 43, were among the lovebirds who exchanged vows after cohabiting for the last 20 years.

The couple said “I do” in the church infront of, among others, their children and friends.

Mr. Makwemba said he would advise a couple planning to marry to tie the knot in church as the marriage is blessed, adding that it was also cheaper.

According to the groom, the ceremony rejuvenated their union and that they that they now look forward to a future where they are more united.
