Fifteen people have died in two separate road accidents that occurred early Sunday morning in Machakos and Kinangop, Nyandarua County.

Eight people died and several others were injured after a matatu they were travelling in crashed into a stalled lorry at Mwambi area on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.

Confirming the accident, Machakos OCPD Joseph Tenai said the driver of the 14-seater matatu lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the lorry.

Six people died on the spot while two others succumbed to their injuries at the Machakos Level Five Hospital.

Bodies of the deceased were moved to the Machakos Hospital mortuary.

Meanwhile, seven people died after a Probox they were travelling in was swept away by floods in Githabai, Kinangop following heavy rains.

The bodies of the deceased, four men and three women, were moved to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital mortuary.
