13 foreigners arrested in raid at China owned TV station released

Thirteen Chinese nationals who were on Wednesday morning arrested at China Global Television Network offices in Nairobi have been released.

The release of the foreigners came after a directive from the Immigration Department saying the foreigners are in Kenya legally.

The foreigners were arrested in a raid by immigration officers at the station’s headquarters situated in Nairobi’s Kilimani area in an ongoing crackdown on illegal immigrants.

Speaking to Citizen Digital after the raid, one of the employees said the officers, who demanded the foreigners to produce their documents and work permits, paralysed operations and ordered them not to move as they combed the building floor to floor.

CGTN Africa is the African bureau of China Global Television Network, the English-language news channel run by Chinese state broadcaster China Central Television.
