A 13 year old boy was killed by a stray bullet alleged to be from a police officer at Kiamaiko in Nairobi county on Monday night.

It is reported that the boy was hit on a balcony while he was trying to catch a glimpse of the officers who were enforcing the nationwide curfew at around 8pm.

He was rushed to the Mama Lucy Hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.

Nairobi county commander Philip Ndolo however said the boy was accidentally hit by a ricochet as police were trying to disperse a gang who had defied the curfew directive.

The police boss stated that the ricochet can take any direction when released and cause even cause harm to the source.

Ndolo however said police enforcing the dusk to dawn curfew should avoid using their weapons aimlessly and added that investigations are underway.

The body of the teenager is still at the Mama Lucy Hospital mortuary awaiting an autopsy.

On Monday, the High Court directed Police IG Hillary Mutaymbai to publish in the newspapers and file a report on the conduct of police enforcing the curfew.

Mutyambai was given 48 hours to carry out the directive.

Further, police officers have been prohibited from using excessive force when enforcing the curfew.
