14 more patients dead as Kenya records 606 new COVID-19 cases

COVID-19 infections in the country has risen to 18,581 after 606 more patients tested positive for the disease from 4,888 samples tested within the last 24 hours.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, addressing the press on the daily coronavirus briefings at Afya House on Tuesday, said Kenya has now tested 284,500 samples so far since the disease was fist confirmed within the territory.

The 606 patients include 583 Kenyans and 23 foreigners, composed of 409 males and 197 females between 4 months to 85 years of old.

The new cases were distributed in: Nairobi (448), Kiambu (54), Kajiado (25), Machakos (16), Uasin Gishu (11), Nakuru (11), Kericho (9), Busia (7), Mombasa (7), Garissa (6), Bomet (3), Nyeri (2), Narok (2), Nandi (2), Embu (1), Lamu (1), Murang’a (1).

The cases are distributed in sub counties as follows; in Nairobi the 448 cases are in Embakasi East (84), Westlands (46), Langata (39), Dagoretti North (36) Embakasi West (33), Embakasi South (28), Makadara (27), Kasarani (25), Starehe (19), Embakasi Central (18), Dagoretti South (16), Kibra (15) Embakasi North (15), Ruaraka (14), Kamukunji (12), Roysambu (11), Mathare (10).

In Kiambu the 54 cases are in; Kabete (11), Kiambu Town (11), Ruiru (8), Kikuyu (7), Lari (5), Kiambaa (4), Thika (4), Githunguri (2), and Limuru (2).

In Kajiado the 25 cases are in; Kajiado East (12), Kajiado Central (6), Kajiado North (6) and Loitokitok (1).

In Machakos the 16 cases are in Athi River (15) and Machakos Town (1), while in Uasin Gishu the 11 cases are in Ainabkoi (10) and Turbo (1).

In Nakuru the 11 cases are in Naivasha (6) and Nakuru West (5) while all the 9 cases in Kericho are from Ainamoi.

In Busia the 7 cases are all from Teso North, in Mombasa the 7 cases are in; Mvita (4), while Jomvu, Nyali and Changamwe have (1) case each.

In Garissa all the (6) cases are in Garisa Town while in Bomet all the (3) cases are in Bomet Central. In Nyeri the (2) cases are in Kieni East and Mukurweini while in Narok the 2 cases are in Narok North and in Nandi the (2) cases are Emgwen.

The case in Embu is in Manyatta, the case in Lamu is in Lamu West while the case in Muranga is in Kigumo.

CS Kagwe also expressed gratitude to health workers across the country for their efforts after 75 patients were discharged from various hospitals across the country, taking the number of recoveries to 7,908.

He however also added that fatalities rose to 299 as 14 patients succumbed to the disease within the last 24 hours.
