14 Presidents attending Museveni’s swearing in ceremony

14 Heads of State are attending the swearing in of Uganda’s President-elect Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, at the Kololo National Stadium.

According to Uganda’s Minister for the Presidency, Frank Tumwebaze, the Presidents include those from; Zimbabwe, South Africa, Kingdom of Lesotho, South Sudan, Tanzania, Mali, Togo, Chad, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Swaziland, China, Nigeria and the Russian Federation.

Museveni was on February 20th declared winner of the Presidential election after garnering 60.8% of the votes, beating his closest rival Kiza Besigye, who garnered 35.4% of the votes.

On Wednesday, Ugandan police arrested Besigye after he swore himself to office before party officials ahead of Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony.

After the event, Besigye drove around Kampala waving at supporters before he was arrested by police for “addressing an illegal assembly, and towed his car away with him inside it.

Besigye, who is the leader of the Forum for Democratic Change, was arrested several times after the country’s disputed February 18 general election.

Besigye has insisted he won the election with 52 per cent votes, despite the official announcement that declared Museveni winner with 61 per cent votes.

He got 35 per cent and declared the polls were rigged and said he will not approve Museveni’s presidency.
