14 students arrested as arson cases in schools rise

Fourteen students from Marsabit Boys High School were Wednesday evening arrested and taken to Marsabit Police Station over an attempted arson attack targeting the science laboratories.

The 14 were cornered by teachers and school workers who noticed flames from the laboratories after the students lit a fire at around 6:00pm Wednesday.

According to Marsabit OCPD, Ben Kogo, who confirmed the arrest, ten of the 14 students were all newcomers who had joined the school on transfer from other schools.

“These students could have been expelled from their previous schools due to indiscipline cases,” said Ben Kogo.

He noted that police have launched investigation into the matter before arraigning the suspects in court.

In the same county, five girls from Moi Girls secondary school went missing after the burning of one of the dormitories in the learning institution.

Police have so far launched the search for the students.

In Uasin Gishu County, a dormitory block at Leseru Secondary School was on Wednesday night set ablaze by unknown people and property valued at millions of shillings destroyed.
