15 more suspects arraigned over KRA tax evasion scam

Fifteen more suspects were arraigned in court on Wednesday for allegedly abetting tax evasion and bribery at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

The prosecution is seeking to have them detained for 21 days to enable them conclude investigations into the matter.

At the same time, 38 KRA staff who were Monday arraigned in a Nairobi court and detained for 14 days pending conclusion of investigations have moved to court challenge their detention.

In an application they claim that unless the 48 associates who are still being sought by detectives are arrested before the lapse of the 14 days, the detention may be extended to enable the DCI complete the said search and investigations.

The suspects say that they are willing to cooperate with the police and respond to any query as directed by the court.

The court will deliver its ruling on the matter on Thursday.

Meanwhile, four KRA staff Joseph Kuyo Legei, Geoffrey Kipsang Ngeno, Felix Ndabuki Kimeu and Caleb Angwenyi Auka have filed an applications seeking anticipatory bail.

The four are among 48 KRA staffers who were summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for questioning in connection with allegations of tax evasion and bribery.
