15 Year Old Rescued From Marriage

The girl who had been married by a 24 year old man was rescued by Residence of Miti-Kenda in Ruiru.

The form three student of Kite Secondary school, Laikipia County had eloped with the man last December from her home in Al-kalau.

Gikumari Chief Josses Ntwiga said they apprehended the man after a tip-off from the public about a man living with a minor.

The man was arrested and is police custody.

Mr. Ntwiga said the suspect will be arraigned in court and charged with eloping and cohabiting with the minor which is illegal.

“We thank the members of the public and representatives of community policing and Nyumba Kumi initiatives for availing the information to the authorities. We appeal to them to continue with the spirit,” said Ntwiga.

Moses Matete, the girls guardin said she went missing a month ago after which they looked for her everywhere.

Mtete has been educating the girl since her parents are poor and aged and cannot raise her school fees.

“We will take the girl with us and take her back to the school. The law should also take its course and the culprit taken to court,” he said.

The suspect, Peter Kajuta denied the claims saying he was just living with the young girl as a friend.

He pleaded with the areas chief and police to pardon him saying he will never repeat such an action.
