158 public schools face demolition Swazuri

National Land Commission (NLC) on Thursday stated that 158 public schools countrywide face demolition for being built on grabbed land.

The NLC’s National Chairman Prof Mohammed Swazuri noted that investigations have already been launched to establish how the individuals managed to acquire title deeds to public land.

He said the most affected counties are Nairobi, Kisumu, Nakuru and Mombasa.

Speaking during the closing ceremony of Kenya Primary School Head Teachers Annual Conference in Mombasa, Swazuri said his commission intends to summon those suspected to have grabbed the land before publishing their names in public.

He noted that despite NLC having announced that all schools management apply for title deeds last year, only 10,000 out of 24,000 schools complied.

On the other hand, he said many schools have taken a long time to acquire title deeds due to failure by the management to submit factual information among other things.
