16 million litres of illicit brew destroyed so far, says Nkaissery

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has revealed that 16 million litres of illicit brew has been destroyed in the on-going operation against illicit liquor and second generation brew.

Speaking in Ngong during the homecoming ceremony of new assistant chief of Kimuka sub location, Nkaissery said the operation against illicit brew has led to a reduction in cases of insecurity in the country.

He warned that government officials found with the banned drinks will lose their jobs, or frustrating the fight against illicit brew will lose their jobs.

Nkaissery revealed that 50 government officials were nabbed in the operation against illicit brew saying the officers will face disciplinary action.

He noted that the government through the Ministry of Health is conducting research to prevent deaths caused by the consumption of illicit brew adding that plans are underway to set up rehabilitation centres to help addicts.

Bolstering security

Nkaissery also said that over 300 Al Shabaab recruits from coast region have surrendered to the government following the amnesty call issued in April this year.

The Interior CS further stated that police stations and top county officials will get vehicles while chiefs and their assistants will be given motorbikes by September to foster the war against insecurity.

“Every police station, county and sub county commissioners will be given vehicles to help in the fight against insecurity,” he said.

On the incitement allegations against Moses Kuria, Nkaissery said the case is under investigation adding that necessary action will be taken once investigations are complete.

Nkaissery urged the Maasai community to live in harmony saying at no point should politics result to conflict.
