16-year-old boy confesses to selling bhang to raise school fees

A 16-year-old boy from Kevote, Embu County, has confessed to a court of selling bhang to raise school fees.

Johnstone Murimi Munene, a Standard Eight drop-out, said he intended to use money from selling the drugs to pursue a welding course at a nearby polytechnic.

Munene, who was arraigned in court to answer to charges of drug trafficking, further told the court that the drugs were provided by his uncle.

The minor was charged that on May 15, 2018, at Kevote village, he was found in possession of half a kilo cannabis sativa stashed in his house with the intent to peddle.

When asked how he came into possession of the drugs, Munene blamed his uncle, a man identified as Frederick Gitonga.

The magistrate ordered the Officer Commanding Police Station in Manyatta to use Munene’s confession in court to arrest his uncle, adding that the boy will be a key witness in the case.

The magistrate also ordered that Munene to be taken to Embu Level Five Hospital for age assessment after which he be produced in court on May 29, 2018, for pretrial.
