17-year-old boy arrested among suspects masquerading as police officers

Two suspects, including a 17-year-old Form Three drop-out, were arrested on Wednesday in Igembe South, Meru County, for allegedly masquerading as police officers.

According to the police, the two were apprehended while on their way to commit crimes donned in full police regalia; including shoes, socks, shirt and cap.

The suspects are said to have been conducting their operations within Athi, Kanthiari and Kinyanka locations.

Confirming the incident, Gitumi sub-location Assistant Chief Ezekiel Ithalii said the 17-year-old suspect had on several occasions been arrested for terrorising local residents.

The Assistant Chief also noted that the suspect, on his previous arrest, mysteriously disappeared from the cells at Maua Police Station.

According to Administration Police head James Kosgey, after preliminary investigations, the suspect had revealed that they were given the full combat gear by an Administration officer allegedly named Thuranira.

Kosgey, however, stated that they are still conducting investigations as they suspect the two had stolen the uniforms.
