18 dead as Kenyas COVID-19 death toll hits 1,287

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country has risen to 70,804 after 559 people tested positive from a sample size of 3,074.

This brings the total number of samples tested in the country so far to 793,026.

From the new cases, 541 are Kenyans while 18 are foreigners; 336 are male while 223 are females.

The youngest patient is a one-year-old child and the oldest is 82 years old.

The distribution of the cases by Counties is as follows; Nairobi 278, Meru 82, Kilifi 41, Mombasa 41 Kiambu 27, Machakos 16, Uasin Gishu 15, Kajiado 9, Isiolo 8, Nyeri 6, Busia 4, Kakamega 4, Tharaka Nithi 4, Garissa 3, Muranga 3, Mandera 3, Kwale 2, Marsabit 2, Nakuru 2, Kirinyaga 1, Vihiga 1, Homabay 1, Taita Taveta 1, West Pokot 1, Tana River 1, Kitui 1, Kisumu 1 and Elgeyo Marakwet 1.

In terms of Sub County Distribution; the 278 cases in Nairobi, are from Lang’ata (42), Starehe (31), Embakasi East and Kibra (24) cases each, Dagoretti North and Westlands (20) cases each, Embakasi South (17), Embakasi West and Mathare (16) cases each, Roysambu (15), Dagoretti South and Kamukunji (13) cases each, Embakasi North and Ruaraka (7) cases each, Kasarani (5), Embakasi Central and Makadara (4) cases each.

In Meru, the 82 cases are from Imenti North (47), Igembe South (8), Imenti South (7), Buuri (6), Igembe Central (5), Tigania East (4), Imenti Central (3) and Tigania West (2).

In Kilifi, the 41 cases are from Malindi (25), Kaloleni (15) and Kilifi North (1). In Mombasa, the 41 cases are from Mvita (20), Kisauni (12), Nyali and Likoni (4) cases each, Changamwe (1).

In Kiambu, the 27 cases are from Kiambu Town (9), Ruiru (7), Kikuyu (4), Kabete, Kiambaa and Lari (2) cases each, Juja (1).

In Machakos, the 16 cases are from Machakos Town (11), Athi River (2), Kangundo, Masinga and Yatta (1) case each In Uasin Gishu, the 15 cases are from Kesses and Moiben (4) cases each, Kapseret (3), Ainabkoi and Turbo (2) cases each.

In Kajiado, the 9 cases are from Kajiado North (5) and Kajiado East (4). In Isiolo, all the 8 cases are from Isiolo Town while in Nyeri the 6 cases are from Mukurweini (4),
Mathira East and Nyeri Central (1) case each.

The 4 cases in Busia are from Butula (2), Matayos and Nambale (1) case each, the 4 cases in Kakamega are from Mumias East (2), Lurambi and Shinyalu (1) case each while the 4 cases in Tharaka Nithi are from Maara (3) and Chuka (1)

In Garissa, all the 3 cases are from Garissa Town, while in Muranga, all the 3 cases are from Maragua, and all the 3 cases in Mandera, are from Mandera East.

The 2 cases in Kwale, are from Msambweni, the 2 cases in Marsabit, are from Moyale and the 2 cases in Nakuru, are from Kuresoi South.

The case in Kirinyaga, is from Kirinyaga Central, the case in Vihiga, is from Luanda, the case in Homabay is from Homabay Town, the case in Taita Taveta is from Voi, the case in West Pokot, is from Pokot North, the case in Tana River, is from Bura, the case in Kitui, is from Mwingi Central, the case in Kisumu, is from Kisumu Central and the case in Elgeyo Marakwet, is from Marakwet West.

The Ministry of Health has also announced 478 new recoveries; 337 from the Home Based Care and Isolation and 141 from various hospitals across the country.

The total number of recoveries in the country now stands at 46,244.

On the same note, the total number of coronavirus fatalities in the country has risen to 1,287 after 18 patients succumbed between Sunday and Monday.
