18 KCSE candidates, 5 invigilators arraigned over exam irregularities

Twenty-three suspects, including five teachers, were on Tuesday arraigned at Ogembo Law Courts in Kisii County after they were caught in breach of examination regulations.

Appearing before Resident Magistrate Julius Mutai, 18 students from Nduru Boys High School in Gucha sub-county, Kisii, were charged with being in possession of exam paper, material or information contrary to Section 27(1) of the Kenya National Examination Act 2012.

In count two, the five teachers were charged with aiding and abetting of an offense contrary to Section 40 as read with Section 29 of the Kenya National Examination Act 2012.

The teachers were on Monday caught at the school in possession of handwritten and typed materials in an examination room despite being invigilators.

In his ruling, Magistrate Mutai bonded the students to their parents and ordered them report to Nyamache Police Station on November 29 after clearing their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

The teachers were, however, released on cash bail of Ksh.5,000 each and their case set for mentioning on December 3, 2018.
