19 candidates line up for presidency in August polls

19 presidential candidates are among the more than 15,000 candidates who will by be vying for various elective offices in the August general election.
Of the 19 candidates, 11 will be vying as independents. The 47 governor positions will be contested by 246 candidates, while 349 aspirants have thrown their hats in the ring for the senate seats.
The 47 woman representative positions will be a battle between 327 candidates, while 2,078 candidates are in the race for the 290 national assembly seats.
The 1,450 wards will be a showdown between 12,060 candidates who have set their eyes on the member of the county assembly seats.
At 1,801 Jubilee has the highest number of candidates in the August general election, with the orange party-ODM coming second with 1,289 candidates. Maendeleo Chap Chap has 911 candidates, while KANU and Amani National Congress have 695 and 639 candidates respectively.
The Wiper Party, and Ford Kenya have a combined candidature of 1, 263, while Chama cha Mashinani, PNU and Democractic Party have less than 400 candidates. IEBC has given parties have until Sunday, May 21, to correct any anomalies in their lists of candidates, to pave the way for printing of ballot papers, in readiness for the August general election.
