19 students suspended over homosexuality

19 boys from St. Mary’s Kibabii Boys High School in Bungoma County have been sent home as the administration investigates suspected homosexual relationships between students.

School Principal Mathews Namunwa says the students’ parents picked them from school as tension mounted between boys supporting homosexuality and those opposed to it.

The principal describes the debate between the two groups of boys as animated with tension boiling between the two opposing factions.

The rising tension forced the parents of those supporting homosexuality to take away their kids before things could get out of hands.

However, the principal says the students were not suspended but picked by their parents for a few days as investigations into the issue continue.

“I wish to confirm there is no any student who has been suspended or expelled; we have students who are off for a day or two,” said Mr. Namunwa.

An investigation is ongoing to establish whether the form four and three boys were indeed engaging in homosexuality with form one students and whether they threatened students who were against it.

He further denies any acts of homosexuality having been reported in the school.

“This is my second term and the issue of gayism has not reached my desk. That is a societal problem and we will bring all the stakeholders and bring the ministry of education to investigate the same.”
