19-year-old man who beheaded his grandmother detained for 7 days

A Kisumu court has ordered that a 19-year-old suspect who decapitated his grandmother at Nyalenda be detained for 7 days pending completion of police investigations.

The court, in a Wednesday sitting, also ordered that a mental assessment be conducted on the suspect in preparation to stand murder trial.

The man from Kilo area on Monday beheaded his grandmother under unclear circumstances.

He then placed the severed head inside a bag and surrendered himself to the Kisumu Central Police Station.

The incident left officers at Central Police Station shocked after the accused alerted one of them to open the bag only to find a chopped off head.

The motive of the incident remains unclear.
