2 People Die After Consuming Illicit Brew, Machakos

The two brothers, a primary school teacher and a village headman died after allegedly consuming the illicit brew on Thursday night at Kitheuni village.

Six other people are hospitalized and currently receiving treatment at the Machakos district hospital.

According to Machakos OCPD Joseph Kiragu, police have retrieved 5 and a half bottles of the killer brew.

52 public officials have so far been interdicted in connection with illicit alcohol that has killed more than 80 people in five counties.

‘Some 175 people are still hospitalized, a number of them in critical conditions, ‘said Interior Cabinet secretary Joseph Ole Lenku.

High levels of methanol in the illicit brew have been attributed to the deaths.
