20 families homeless after fire razes houses in Kibra

More than 20 families were left homeless and property of an unknown reduced to ashes on Saturday night at Soweto area in Kibra, Nairobi County by a huge fire.

According to area chief Joseph Songa, the incident whose cause has not yet been established took place at 10pm.

“For now it is hard to tell what really caused the fire, although there is a high chance that the fire was caused by an electric fault,” said Songa.

Mr Songa stated that no life was lost during the incident, but regretted that the lack of clear roads in the area prevented the access of the fire engine, leading to the loss of more property in the fire.

“We could have salvaged property but it was hard for the fire engine to reach this place due to the lack of clear roads,” said Songa.

The victims on the other hand appealed to the government and well wishers to assist them as they plan on starting their lives afresh.
