20 people arrested for flouting COVID-19 safety protocols at a bar in Homa Bay

Twenty people were Saturday night arrested in a bar in Homa Bay town for flouting protocols and guidelines issued to curb the spread of COVID-19  in the country.

Homa Bay Sub-county Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Jude Wasonga said those arrested include bar operators who allowed a live band to play at the bar despite the county’s COVID-19 Emergency Response team banning live band in the region.

Wasonga said the bar in which 20 people were arrested has already been closed and license revoked with immediate effect for failing to comply with the COVID-19 protocols.

The 20 were taken to Homa Bay Police station where they are being detained pending arraignment on Tuesday.

The Deputy County Commissioner warned bar owners against flouting the COVID-19 rules saying they will continue with the crackdown to ensure there is full adherence to the safety regulations.
