20 Pupils Admitted over Cholera Fears

Nakuru County Director of health Dr Daniel Wainaina says the students were treated at Langa Langa health center, where it was established that they had food poisoning. 

Nakuru County has been on high alert over cholera outbreak in the area after the disease killed 17 people over the last one month.

Speaking to the media, Nakuru County director of health services, Dr Daniel Wainaina, said that rapid cholera tests were however done on all the students and, fortunately, they all turned up negative. 

Ten students had severe abdominal pains while a few were reported to have vomited at night, just hours after taking their supper. 

PREVENTIVE MEASURES

The medic said that the county government has taken adequate measures to prevent the spread of cholera, a disease that has so far claimed 17 lives since it was first reported in Nakuru. 

Wainaina adds that so far, the department of health has fumigated 670 schools and provided handwashing facilities as a preventive measure. 

He further emphasised that the ban on open food hawking is still in force. 

The medic added that the county government has partnered with the County Government of Baringo to prevent further infections after 40 cases that were reported along the Rongai-Mogotio border. 

Wainaina confirmed that all the students would be treated and discharged.
