20-year-old man slapped with 15yr jail term for defiling girl

A 20-year-old man has been imprisoned for 15 years after he was found guilty of defiling a 12-year-old girl in Rongo, Migori County.

Appearing before Rongo Law Courts Resident Magistrate Raymond Langat, Innocent Orwaro was accused of committing the offence on August 24, 2019 at Kanga village.

The magistrate, in his judgment, said testimonies given by witnesses as well as other documented evidence presented in court proved beyond reasonable doubt that the accused committed the offence.

Magistrate Langat added that Orwaro indicated to the court that he was 17 years old but age assessment done at the Rongo sub-county hospital indicated that he was 20 years old.

In his final remark, the resident magistrate further raised concern over rising cases of defilement in Rongo and Awendo sub-counties.

Orwaro now has 14 days to appeal the judgment failure to which he will serve the jail term.
