200 arrested drinking inside notorious Avery Lounge in Utawala during curfew

Two hundred people were on Friday night arrested in a police operation in Utawala area of Nairobi for violating the 9pm to 4am curfew imposed as a means of curbing the spread of COVID-19.

All those arrested were caught drinking and violating social distancing regulations by the Ministry of Health in the notorious Avery Lounge.

The entertainment joint that was being raided by police for the fourth time in as many months continues to operate despite rubbing the law the wrong way several times.

A fortnight ago, several people – including the area MCA – were arrested in the same spot that is said to operate with impunity due to the owner’s powerful connections to those in authority.

The suspects were taken to Kayole and Ruai police stations as they await being presented before courts Monday.

County Police Commander Philip Ndolo has since said that the 200 are among 255 people arrested in Nairobi for flouting COVID-19 regulations, with the others being nabbed at roadblocks.
