200 families left homeless after houses demolished

More than 200 families in Eldoret’s Kipkaren village have been rendered homeless after their houses were demolished following a land dispute.

The tenants claim that police ambushed them at 3AM Wednesday with a bulldozer, ready to bring down the structures without prior notice.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Alice Chepkoech, who claims to be the legitimate owner of the disputed land said she received a court order to vacate alleging that it had already been sold to unknown private developers.

Chepkoech noted that the land feud is a calculated conspiracy by selfish people who are out to grab the parcel.

One of the victims, Jane Gathoni – who is still stranded after the house she has lived in for three years was bulldozed down has called on the government to intervene and provide alternative settlements for them.
