20,000 schools yet to claim title deeds
Over 20,000 schools have not claimed their title deeds, despite the president’s directive to the Ministry of Lands to issue title deeds to all public schools by last month.
Speaking at the ongoing primary school heads association conference in Mombasa, National Land Commission Chair Mohammed Swazuri revealed that only 10,000 schools out of 30, 000 have come out to collect their title deeds
Swazuri insisted that schools must pay required land rates, adding that they are working with county governments to identify land belonging to schools.
Early this year, the president directed that school land ownership documents be processed and registered in the names of school committees and management boards.
The directive came in the wake of an attempted plot to grab a piece of land belonging to Lang’ata Road Primary School in Nairobi.
