2014 Commonwealth Games Begin
Queen Elizabeth 11 officially opened the games before a 40,000 crowd on Wednesday night
The Queen declared the games open by reading her own message from inside the Commonwealth Baton
The baton relay represents a calling together of people from every part of the commonwealth
"It acts as a reminder of our shared ideals and ambitions as a diverse, resourceful and cohesive family" the Queen said
Playing her role as the Head of Commonwealth, the Queen send her best wishes to the competing athletes
The games will feature 17 sports for the 11 days of competition
Thousands of athletes from 71 nations and territories took part during the opening ceremony
India, the host of the previous games in Delhi in 2010 was the first nation to enter the arena and received a warm welcome
The closing ceremony will take place in Hampden Park on the 3rd of August
