21 Nepali strippers arrested for being in the country illegally

Detectives from the Transnational Crime Squad on Thursday night arrested 21 Nepali citizens who are believed to be in the country illegally after a raid on two Nairobi strip clubs.

The detectives carried out the raids at midnight in the two popular strip clubs located on Chiromo Lane and arrested the Nepalis.

The Kenyan government has been on a crackdown which was launched on May 21 2018 by Interior Affairs Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to nab foreigners working on Kenyan soil without proper work permit.

The government in May issued a 60-day ultimatum for all foreigners working in Kenya to regularise their work permits as the government strives to tighten its immigration process.

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i said unemployment levels in the country are at an all time high and Kenyans need to be cushioned from those who take jobs that they can do themselves.

“We have not cleaned up our systems on Immigration. Our official records show there are 34,000 foreigners working in Kenya. You and I know that is not true, the real figure is there are probably over 100,000. Means there are people doing jobs that Kenyans can do, coming through the backdoor,” he said.
