21 people hospitalized after drinking poisoned mursik

Twenty-one people among them eight children are receiving treatment at Kopsiro Health Center in Mt Elgon after taking poisoned fermented milk commonly known in the region as ‘Mursik’.

Three others are also admitted to several other hospitals in the region in suspected food poisoning.

Kopsiro Sub County Hospital Clinical Officer in charge Kipsang Masai, most of the patients admitted with varying severity of vomiting and diarrhoea were now stable and on the mend.

According to the hospital records, those admitted to hospital had all purchased the milk from one vendor.

They only noticed something was amiss after several of them were taken ill with severe diarrhoea

A local administrator has now called on other families that may have consumed the milk to go for a medical check-up.
