22 new COVID-19 cases confirmed as health ministry notes drug shortage

Kenya’s Ministry of Health on Monday noted that some counties are experiencing shortage of drugs in their public hospitals.

Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr Rashid Aman, speaking during the daily COVID-19 updates, hence urged county governments to clear any pending bills they have with the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) to enable the State body supply the hospitals with more drugs.

Dr. Aman also announced that 22 people tested positive for the coronavirus disease from 595 samples tested within the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 39,449.

From the cases, all are Kenyans except 1 foreigner;15 are males and 7 females. The youngest is an 18-year old while the oldest is 65.

Distribution of the cases by counties is as follows; Nairobi (18) Meru (2), Nakuru (1) and Kiambu (1).

In Meru, the 2 cases are all from Imenti North. In Nakuru, the case is from Naivasha, while in Kiambu the case is from Kiambaa.

The CAS also noted that 376 people recovered from the disease, 360 of them under the Home-Based Care Program while 16 discharged from various hospitals, taking the total recoveries to 27,035.

He however added that 4 patients however succumbed to the disease bringing the cumulative fatality to 735.
