22 people have been isolated in Kirinyaga county after a 55-year-old trailer driver tested positive for Covid-19.

Health officers were informed that the driver who was transporting grains from Malaba had been tested positive at the border and left for Kirinyaga.

The man who is not from Kirinyaga County was intercepted on arrival at Kutus.

He was taken to Kerugoya Hospital and then moved to Nairobi in an ambulance.

Red Cross manager for Central region Mugambi Gitonga expressed concern over trailer drivers passing roadblocks mounted by police officers.

“The big question is how did the driver pass all the road blocks from Malava to Kutus in Kirinyaga?” Mugambi posed.

He urged security team to deal ruthlessly with drivers entering central region from Nairobi, Mombasa, Kilifi and other counties without authorisation.

On his part, Kirinyaga-East sub County boss Moses Gicharu advised residents to continue following government directives in the fight against Covid-19.
