23-year-old man commits suicide over land row

A family in Obumba village, Kisumu County is mourning the loss of their kin after he committed suicide over a family land row.

23-year-old Joshua Odhiambo Ouma took his life by hanging himself at a neighbour’s house after his siblings rejected his plans to sell a piece of the family land.

According to the mother of the deceased, his son wanted to sell the piece of land to get money for acquiring a driving license.

Kisumu County police commander Samuel Anampiu said the family had a meeting on Sunday over the matter but his brothers declined his request prompting him to take his life.

The police commander added that the deceased then stormed out of the meeting, locked himself up in their neighbours house and used a rope to take his life.

The body was moved to Ahero Sub-county hospital mortuary.
