237 Kenyans who arrived back from India allowed to self-quarantine

Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Rashid Aman on Friday announced that the 237 Kenyans who arrived back into the country from India will be allowed to self-quarantine at their respective homes.

Dr. Aman, speaking during a press address at Afya House where he announced 14 more Covid-19 cases, said the returnees spent the night at various city hotels at the government’s expense awaiting processing.

“I’m glad to inform you that 237 Kenyans, together with their family members and caregivers, arrived last evening and were received by staff from the Ministry of Health who facilitated their clearance,” he said.

“Many of the returnees were accommodated in hotels last evening at government expense while being processed to proceed home for self-quarantine. Similar flights are expected into the country in the coming days.”

The Kenya Airways plane carrying the 237 from various cities in India such as Mumbai and Shangai landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Thursday night.

According to Foreign Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary Ababu Namwamba, majority of those who returned home were Kenyans who were stuck in India having gone to seek medication before the coronavirus pandemic triggered the closure of the country to international travel.

Plans are now underway to also have Kenyans stuck in China return home.
