239 COVID-19 patients admitted to ICUs across Kenya, ministry says

239 COVID-19 patients are admitted to the Intensive Care Units (ICUs) in health care facilities across the country, the Ministry of Health has said.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday, 47 ICU patients are on ventilatory support while 161 are on supplemental oxygen and another 31 are under observation.

Meanwhile, the country’s COVID-19 positivity rate is at 15.4 percent, with 991 new infections recorded in the last 24 hours.

According to the ministry, the new infections were reported from 6,417 samples that were tested.

With a cumulative 1,571,244 samples tested so far, the total number of positive cases in the country now stands at 147,147.

The new cases include 956 Kenyans and 35 foreigners, with 543 males and 448 females, according to the statement.

Distribution of positive cases by age is as follows; 0-9 years (34), 10-19 years (43), 20-29 years (116), 30-39 years (235), 40-49 years (214), 50-59 years (161), 60 and above (188).

In terms of County distribution; Nairobi 296, Kiambu 67, Uasin Gishu 66, Kericho 58, Nakuru 44, Kisumu 41, Machakos 39, Mombasa 38, Meru 34, Kitui 30, Kajiado 28, Nyeri 24, Makueni 24, Garissa 24, Taita Taveta 22, Busia 19, Kilifi 13, Murang’a 13, Trans Nzoia 13, Baringo 12, Bungoma 11, Nyandarua 10, Kakamega 9, Isiolo 8, Vihiga 7, Laikipia 7, Bomet 6, Homa Bay 4, West Pokot 4, Kirinyaga 4, Elgeyo Marakwet 3, Nandi 3, Siaya 3, Mandera 2, Kisii 1, Kwale 1, Narok 1, Tharaka Nithi 1 and Wajir 1.

In terms of Sub County distribution; In Nairobi the 296 cases are from Dagoretti North (32), Lang’ata (26), Embakasi West (25), Kibra and Roysambu (20) cases each, Kasarani (19), Starehe (18) Embakasi East and Makadara (17) cases cach, Westlands (16), Embakasi Central (15), Kamukunji, and Ruaraka (14) cases each, Embakasi North and Embakasi South (13) cases each Mathare (9), Dagoretti South (8).

In Kiambu the 67 cases are from Ruiru (18), Thika (16), Kikuyu (10), Klambu Town (8), Juja and Kiambaa (4) cases each, Kabete (3), Gatundu South and Githunguri (2) cases each.

There are currently 1,607 patients admitted to various health facilities across the country, with 5,996 patients on Home Based Isolation and Care.

Meanwhile, 370 recoveries have been reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the country’s total to 99,095.

214 of the new recoveries came from different health facilities, while 156 came from the Home Based and Isolation Care network, according to the Ministry of Health.

At the same time, 26 more people have died, bringing the total number of casualties to 2,394.

According to the Ministry of Health, one of the new deaths occurred within the last 24 hours, fifteen within the last month, and ten were late death reports that occurred on various dates and were recorded after facility record audits.
