24 dead as Kenya coronavirus cases soar to 64,588

Kenya’s total coronavirus caseload has hit 64,588 after 1,344 cases were reported by the Ministry of Health on Tuesday.

The new cases are from 7,162 samples and push the total number of samples tested so far to 753,959.

From the cases, 1,299 are Kenyans while 45 are foreign nationals; 815 are male while 529 are female.

The youngest patient is a 1-month-old baby while the oldest patient is 96 years old.

So far,2,108 healthcare workers have been infected with the virus; 1,074 male and 1,034 female.

22 frontline workers have also succumbed to the disease since March when the pandemic was first reported in Kenya.

Nairobi 322, Kiambu 221, Mombasa 133, Laikipia 72, Uasin Gishu 66, Kericho 65, Nakuru 63, Kajiado 43, Kilifi 40, Kisumu 36, Kwale 32, Migori 32, Machakos 30, Baringo 20, Bomet 19, Nandi 16, Meru 13, Nyeri 12, Kisii 11, Embu 11, Mandera 11, Kakamega 8, Murang’a 8, Nyamira 8, Elgeyo Marakwet 5, Turkana 5, Nyandarua 4, Narok 4, Kirinyaga 4, Trans Nzoia 4, Tharaka Nithi 3 Vihiga 3, West Pokot 3, Bungoma 2, Taita Taveta 2, Wajir 2, Busia 2, Makueni 2, Samburu 2, Homabay 2, Siaya 2, and Kitui 1.

In terms of Sub County Distribution; the 322 cases in Nairobi, are from Dagoretti North (41), Lang’ata (39), Makadara (28), Westlands (27), Embakasi South (19), Dagoretti South, Embakasi East and Kamukunji (18) cases each, Kasarani, Mathare, Ruaraka and Starehe (15) cases each, Embakasi West (14), Kibra (13), Embakasi Central (12), Roysambu (10) and Embakasi North (5).

In Kiambu, the 221 cases are from Thika (52), Kiambu Town (35), Ruiru 32), Kiambaa (31), Juja (16), Kikuyu (15), Lari (13), Limuru (11), Kabete (7), Gatundu North (4), Githunguri (3) and Gatundu South (2).

In Mombasa, the 133 cases are from Mvita (69), Nyali (28), Kisauni (20),
Likoni (11), Jomvu (3) and Changamwe (2).

In Laikipia, the 72 cases are from Laikipia East (38) and Laikipia West (34).

In Uasin Gishu, the 66 cases are from Ainabkoi (33), Turbo (14), Moiben (10), Kapseret (6) and Kesses (3). In Kericho, the 65 cases are from Ainamoi (52), Kipkelion East (6), Belgut (5), Bureti and Sigowet (1) case each. In Nakuru, the 63 cases are from Nakuru East (30), Nakuru West (11), Gilgil (7), Naivasha, Njoro, Rongai and Subukia (3) cases each, Molo (2) and Kuresoi North (1).

In Kajiado the 43 cases are from Loitokitok (21), Kajiado North (13) and Kajiado East (9). In Kilifi, the 40 cases are from Kilifi South (20), Kaloleni (10), Kilifi North (7) and Malindi (3).

In Kisumu, the 36 cases are from Kisumu Central (34), Kisumu West and Nyando (1) case each.

At the same time, the government has announced 24 deaths, the highest number of fatalities announced in a single day.

On a positive note however, 436 patients have recovered from the virus, bringing the total 4 number of recoveries so far to 43,095 recoveries so far.

297 of the new recoveries were patients under the Home-Based care system while 139 had been admitted to various hospitals.
