24 hospitalized after fresh cholera outbreak
24 people have been admitted in three separate heath facilities within Ugunja Sub-County in Siaya County following a fresh cholera outbreak in the region.
According to Ambira Medical Officer of Health Dr. Bernard Onguche, 10 patients have been admitted at Ligega health center, 7 at Sigomre and 7 others at Ambira sub-county hospital.
Dr. Onguche revealed that 8 out of the 24 admitted are said to have been infected after eating at a funeral in Sofia area in Tingare on Friday.
Siaya County has suffered recurrent cholera outbreaks since May 2015, with Ugunja Sub-County being the worst hit with a record of 146 cases since February this year.
Early March, health officials in Siaya County closed down Ugunja Market following a cholera outbreak that led to the death of five people.
